Shrub or tree. Flowers unisexual, solitary or in umbel-like cyme. Male flowers: sepals 4, petals 4; stamens many consolidated into a fleshy mass, pistillode absent. Female flowers: sepals and petals similar to male flowers, staminoides united into 4 bundles; ovary ovoid, without style, stigma peltate. Berry ovoid or subglobose, with persistent calyx at base and stigma at apex.
